My mission:

Empowering kids to help themselves from the inside out.

My philosophy:

Helping kids help themselves.

After 20 years of experience in treating children, adolescents, and adults with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional abdominal pain (FAP), functional dyspepsia (FD), abdominal migraine (AM), and cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS), this program incorporates the three techniques that I have discovered work best to treat these conditions:

  • Medical Hypnosis
  • TEAM-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TEAM-CBT)
  • Powerful Motivational Techniques

My driving philosophy is always to discover which treatment works best for each patient, and I have witnessed firsthand how effective these approaches are.

Not only does medical hypnosis help patients manage their anxiety, it is also extremely effective in treating the physical symptoms of these gut-related symptoms, such as:

  • Pain
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation

The combination of medical hypnosis with powerful motivational tools
and CBT (the gold standard for treating anxiety) helps patients achieve
meaningful gut pain relief much more quickly than other approaches.

Why I created this program

A couple years ago, I met with Ken Cox, MD, the Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology and the Associate Chair of Pediatrics at Stanford University Medical Center.

He was familiar with the research that supported medical hypnosis for patients with functional gastrointestinal disorders, such IBS and FAP, and had referred some of his patients with those symptoms to me for hypnotherapy.

Dr. Cox also knew about my other home video program, Keeping the Bed Dry®, for patients with bedwetting, and he encouraged me to develop a similar program for patients with IBS and FAP.

He suggested that I also meet with two of his colleagues, Kathy Cox, RN, PNP, and Kaylie Nguyen, RN, PNP, to discuss this, and I was excited by this opportunity.

And so, Controlling Your Gut Feelings was born. It combines medical
hypnosis, TEAM-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Strategies, and powerful motivational techniques into a cost-effective, time-efficient online video
home program for kids with a wide range of functional and organic
gastrointestinal conditions.
